How I came to Southeastasia

how-i-came-to-southeastasia

Now I stay since 4 years in Thailand. I always planned to leave Europe. But I never expected to live in Asia or Thailand…

Usually I decided together with my Exwife to go to Cyprus or somewhere else. The most important point was, it shoul be warmer and without snow. Normally I wanted to go to South America. But my Exwife scared long distance flights.

But in 2005 in happened. As we were self-employed, I always was very busy. 14-16 hours working a day was normal. So it came that my exwife started an affair with a good friend of mine. At the same time I had some closer contact to a friend. And that friend lived that time in Thailand. To relax a bit from the situation with my exwife he invited me to visit him for a few weeks. And he also said, if I’d like to live over there in Thailand – no problem, as both of us are doing the same work – internet marketing.

So I agreed and in February 2006 I came the first time to Thailand. He picked me up at the airport in Bangkok and brought me straight to the place he lived that time: Mae Sot at the Burmese border in Northwest-Thailand. There I stayed 3 weeks. And yet in Thailand I decided to relocate to Thailand. So it came that I booked my ticket back to Thailand for 3 months later, while I still were in Thailand. 3 months I needed as i had to clear everything in Europe and of course to sell.

I remember like yesterday the following 3 months back in Europe. Even when I had a lot of work with my business but also with cleaning the house, I thought this time will never end. Some friends were really wondering, how it’s possible to leave at least from one day to the next. Well, the point was very easy to explain: it was the chence of my life to relocate: anyway I had to start a new part of my life. And starting from zero at home or in another country – where is the difference? So I took this chance.

And than, 3 months later, finally it was my last day in Munich. It was a strange feeling. In a way it was like going for some vacation. But on the other hand I knew very well that this was a final step, at least for the next time. And so I came to Asia. And since this time I never looked back to Europe. It was one of the steps in my life, if I have the choice to decide again, I would do again, while many other things not.

Since this time I have seen many things over here. Bad things but also good things. About many things I think different now. Other things became very important for me while other thing, which were very important before, are not important anymore. I lived not only in Mae Sot. I also live in other provinces. And in other countries like Cambodia.

In this blog it’s about informations and news for people which are interested into this region. But it’s also about my life and my experiences over here. So mixed well ;)

Chumpae ist a city in the heart of Thailand. It is the first bigger towns on the way up into the Isaan coming from Sukothai and Phitsanolouk. Follow this road you will come to Khon Kaen.

That evening we passed Chumpae they just had a festival with a market. The sunset that evening was just great.

Between Mae Sot and Tak

Mae Sot is a border town to Myanmar/Burma. It is located in the Tak Province. When you want to go from Tak to Mae Sot, it’s a 80 kilometer long trip thru the mountains.

After about 30 kilometers (from Tak coming) is a big market of some hilltribes – the Muser Market. There the hilltribes try to sell everything and get from the jungle: vegetables, mushrooms and of course flowers like orchids.

The street itself is well-known in Thailand for being one of the most dangerous streets, even when it is a well prepared street (at most parts they made now three lanes). The problems are the curves as Thai people don’t like curves that much. So there’s always a chance that you will suddenly see a big truck in front of you on your lane – but driving in the opposite direction!

Along this road we made all of this fotos

Along the border to Burma: Mae Nam Moei

Thailand has now 6 international border checkpoints with Burma/Myanmar. For most people the border at Mae Sot is the most popular as it’s quiet in the center from the north to the south.

Reason enough for us, to post some fotos directly from the border, which is called Maenam Moei or Mae Nam Moei as this is the name of the river between Thailand and Myanmar.
